CD ReviewsAx Genrich - 'Wave Cut' (ATM Records) Mike Reed | USA | 12/26/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "'Wave Cut' was Ax Genrich's follow-up to his 'Psychedelic Guitar' CD(see my review).Although every track here elevates one's mind to it's highest, the best cuts are "Go!Lemgo",which pretty much defines true 'head music' and the eleven-minute title track "Wave Cut".Put the two together and they could've easily been a vintage Guru Guru lp.What's really amazing here is this effort by Genrich isn't that old.The incredible "Come Back" is what drew me to this modern day krautrock recorded work."The Rebel" employs some mutated violin-like samples but it later leads into some trademark Genrich guitar wailing."Meat" is one minute's worth of some strange experimental sound effects. How would I describe Genrich's music?Try to imagine Jimi Hendrix on steroids with a highly talent ethnic band to back him up.If Hendrix were alive today,Genrich could give him a good run for his money.I've touched base with Ax before via snail mail and he told me in a past letter that he saw Hendrix play in Switzerland,I believe it was and he had tried NOT to sound like 'ol Jimi.Rest assure,Ax,I just gave you probably the highest complement a guitar player could ever get,and besides,I still have this disc in my 'play fairly often stack'.Recommended."
