CD ReviewsAva's Never Really Got Her Props... yygsgsdrassil | Crossroads America | 04/10/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "...particularly here in the States, but over in the UK and Europe, she's a well-respected and in demand vocalist. I first noticed her chops as a background singer in Bowie's recording 'Young Americans' and it's said that she and he kicked it romantically for a while. Then I along with most of the American R and Bee fans began to recognize her for her background vocal work and concert appearances with Luther Vandross (along with Lisa Fischer, Kevin Owens, Tawatha Agee, et al). Well, along with being a vocal powerhouse, she is quite a looker. Thusly, although probably she'd personally cringe at the title and the suggestion, she is known as the 'Black Barberella...' I caught a listen to her version of Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Not" and I can conclude that most people in the states don't know what a great talent they are missing. Ava's one hot artist, in my book."
