"Try to think of the times when a record just jumped out and grabbed you and simply would not let go. Kelley Ryan's (aka astropuppees) newest record is like that....and more. It's a happy record, in a time when happy and fun and easy aren't looked at as values. I'm not going to compare her to other singers*, because that'll not do 'Sugar Beat' justice. This record isn't slick, it's not forced or phony. Yeah, it's a 'girl' singer having fun, singing about fun, and guys and stuff. That can be a very wonderful thing.
* ok...maybe one....I haven't fallen so hard for a record since Sam Phillips' "Indescribable Wow" many years ago. I know I'm not throwing out a superstar, but if you ever loved that record, then just trust me now."

"Usually a cd takes at least a listen or two to sink in for me. Not this one. I was instantly hooked. I found Astropuppees on MySpace and boy am I glad. This is a fantastic record. I'm not sure exactly what her connection is with Don Dixon and Marti Jones but this is so good it reminds me of just how much I always loved Marti also. This is beautiful and smart music. I sure hope that some radio dj is playing Sugar Beat because this is just what the doctor ordered. Fun and double fun!"
