"Tom Shear the face and sound behind Assemblage 23 is a pioneer of the synth-industrial genre and each new release reveals that his grip and grasp is getting tighter and more perfect with each passing release. In this current EP "Binary", Tom Shear has orchestrated a sheer work of art. Not only does the album cover give a testament of an artist at work but the 2 remixes of the song 'Binary' are fantastic. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the Nerve Filter Dub which is Tom's side project that in itself bears monumental merit. I absolutely love the album version of Binary but the club mix of Binary comes close to eclipsing if not over-taking the album version.
As with most EP's that artists have released, this particular release see's the previously unreleased demos of 'Dirt' and 'Fluorescent Skies' released for die hard wanton Assemblage 23 fans. I quite enjoyed 'Dirt' that had a dance friendly beat but 'Fluorescent Skies' was the stand-out for me, it was Tom Shear at his experimental best.
Binary was released near the same time as the full length album 'Meta' and well done to Tom Shear. Each passing album is better than the last - and the fact remains that Tom Shear is on his way to becoming a legend in the synth fusion scene. His mix of dance friendly music with cutting edge lyrics fuse together to create masterpiece after masterpiece"
Love it!

"Chalk up another success for synth phenom Tom Shear's A23 project!
This long-awaited album is not only thoughtful and insightful, but serves as a demonstration of A23's growing maturity through a continued creative prowess that now seems almost other-worldly.
"Meta" is a work of doubtless, uninhibited soul-searching constructed with precise, intentional sound design that will grip you, shake you, and move you. What's even more surprising are the vocals which are, (moreso than ever) crisp, clear, dramatic and very, very well developed. (Wow!)
Tracks like "Madman's Dream", "Sorry", "Damaged" and "Old" immediately grab your attention and take you on a thumping, pulsing whirlwind tour of Tom's innermost thoughts, and cynical (yet honest) views on the politics of self perception, human nature, and survival. This album is a series of relentlessly creative tracks for any emotional occasion.
META is destined to be a benchmark & definitive work for Assemblage 23. Mark my words.
Thanks again, Tom! I owe you."
