The Lost Beatle?

"If "My Chemical Romance" had a place in his iPod then he must have had Sgt Peppers playing in his crib as a baby and he never forgot it. It's pretty hard to mistake the Beatlesque quality in many of the songs here and Angel certainly pulls off the similarities in fine enough quality and originality to say that he would have done Paul & John proud as their understudy. But the early 70's late 60's sound doesn't stop there with borrowings from Pink Floyd, Tommy James and a good hint of 10cc. A wonderful reinventioon of a sound long past in a new generation. APA makes a great argument for many of us from an older generation to pay attention to the pop charts occassionally."

"This album is simply 'pretty good'. Nothing more, nothing less. It's got some good songs, and it's got some clunkers. I don't think Ashley knows what type of music he really wants to get into yet, and I don't think the band that is backing him up on that album is all that good. Ashley is very talented, and needs to get with a group of younger, edgier musicians, in order to take his music to the next level. Simply making 'ok' music is unacceptable for someone as personable, likeable, and talented as he is.
Standout songs on this album are "Let U Go", "Feel so Alive", "Soundtrack to Your Life" (obviously), and "Crazy Beautiful". Hopefully he ditches his current backup band, and goes with more edge."

"It wasn't until I read a biography about Ashley Parker until I realized that he is the same guy that was a member of boy band O-Town. Well, after taking a few years off, he attached his stepfather's last name to his and left his reality TV image behind to record Soundtrack to Your Life.
One of the best songs on here is the lead single (and opening track) "Let U Go". Also good are the last three tracks, which are mainly piano-driven: "Where Did You Go", "Along the Way" and "Apology". Actually, now that I think about it, a lot of the songs seem to be about heartbreak; half of the album, in fact. Oh, well; at least the lyrics are creative.
But some of the songs, while not bad, don't make Ashley sound much different from a lot of the other contemporary rock singers out there, especially the title track (and I think I've heard that vocal rhythm TOO many times) and "Beautiful Lie". Still, there are notable selections like "Feel So Alive" and "Crazy Beautiful". However, "Who Cares", one of those lost-girl-that-needs-to-be-saved songs, made me say just that.
Soundtrack to Your Life isn't a perfect album, but it does prove that Ashley was able to successfully break out of his old image, and there are enough good moments on here to warrant a purchase, so pick it up.
