"I've been into Ash ever since 1977 came out (their second album) and am somewhat astounded they haven't been as much the rage in the US as they have in the UK. They're reminiscent of a mid-90's Smashing PUmpkins--able to poignantly combine fast, searing guitar drives with light melodies. I would recommend this particular album (which, in my humble opinion, contains only about half of their best work) for anyone green to Ash's musical fortes. If you like Stone Temple Pilots, Weezer, Oasis (one of my guilty pleasures), and/or the aforementioned Pumpkins, then just give this a listen. I know most people here in our beloved USA are more into the whole "rage-metal" suicidal type of rock these days, but please try to expand your horizons and listen to something NOT heard on the radio ..., then tell all your friends and family about Ash so they'll get really popular here and do a US tour so I can see them in concert :o)"
USA wake up to one of the worlds finest bands

"This cd is a singles compilation(1994-2001) of Ash, one of the biggest bands in europe of the ninties. Irish band Ash, to you American novices(How this band hasen't broken it big in America is beyond me) think Weezer, jimmy eat world + dandy Warhols.
Ash have the ability to write delightful pop melodies and this cd include the massive non Us hits 'Girl from Mars', 'Golfinger' 'Burn baby burn' and film score 'Life less ordinary'. This is the perfect place to start. Americans, it is not too late to jump on this bandwagon. This band has sold 8 million records in the world to date."
Wake up America.

"Having scored 10 UK Top 20 singles since 1995, Northern Ireland's Ash are something of an institution internationally, hence this collection of hits and B-Sides.Their tracks vary quite a bit, ranging from the intense shouty Numskull to the pop-tastic Wildsurf, the beautifully poignant Sometimes and the exhuberantly orchestral Candy. Essentially they hinge around power-pop, with airy riffs and optimistic lyrics, mostly about love and lust. Anyone who likes Weezer, Fountains Of Wayne and Bowling For Soup will love this. Most of the tracks on here are extremely impressive - both Shining Light (a melancholic ballad which can be seen as being about love, God or drugs, depending on interpretation) and Burn Baby Burn (the ultimate in singalong rock) having won Single Of the Year awards (for the same year). Sometimes is my absolute favourite though, the sheer beauty has to be heard to be believed. The earlier hits such as Girl From Mars and Oh Yeah have such wistful innocence and joie de vivre that it's hard not to be impressed, especially as the band wrote them while still at school. Although their Nu-Clear Sounds album wasn't as commercially successful, it supplies three great tracks here - Numbskull, Jesus Says and Wildsurf. The second disk is superb as well, comprising some of their classic bonus tracks. Like many British acts, they've taken a lot of pride in many of these, most would be up to album standard, and several (especially The Sweetness Of Death, Nocturne and 13th Floor) could easily be hts in their own right. The group's next full-length album is due in early 2004, and with any luck it'll be the springboard for some US success for the quartet."
