"Art Hodes is one great artist who would've benefitted from being less modest;this is beautiful stuff-maybe to the point that he doesn't realize he's acting as his own warm-up act by kickin' things off with an incredibly georgeous version of 'Winin' Boy Blues' with Truck Parham on bass-and sticks with the duet through 'Old Fashioned Love','Blues Yesterday' and 'Ballin' the Jack'.Then he shifts to a quartet for 'Struttin' With Some Barbeque'(which he's played on several other cd's)-and sticks with a quartet or quintet through the remainder of the cd.The group stuff is terrific-Nappy Trottier(tr),George Brunis(tb),Volly Devault and Raymond Burke(cl),Pops Foster(b)and Barrett Deems(d)-but that should've been for another day, another great album. This one should've been called somethin' like 'Art Hodes and Truck Parham play the Art and Truck Blues'."
