Peiwoh is the long-awaited second solo album by the extraordinary singer/harpist Arianna Savall. Both the music and the repertoire of Peiwoh expand greatly on her debut album Bella Terra. Here, the music is performed by a unique nine-piece ensemble including brother Ferran Savall on vocals and theorbo. The album's theme is based on the taoist tale of Prince Peiwoh, who played a magical harp whose stubborn spirit could only be tamed by the greatest of musicians. This album, like so many on the Alia Vox label, represents a seamless blending of various traditions from east and west, classical and world. Arianna Savall plays a variety of instruments ranging from the small Gothic harp to the majestic Celtic harp.

An Exceptional Blend of Poetry & Music

"Ariana Savall has taken the poetry of Garcia Lorca, Juan de la Cruz, Francis of Assisi, Rumi and Rilke and infused the lyrics with music that compliments every word. Through this album, Savall has introduced me to Catalan, Portugese and other Spanish poets. A language experience that a polyglot would extol, because the well-translated lyrics (translations in 6 languages)are included in the attached booklet. This is more than a recording and cannot be duplicated by downloading onto MP3. This exceptional package is both a listening and reading experience.

The music is diverse: ancient, celtic, contemporary, folk and classical. The performers are extraordinary, particularly the clarity of Ariana's beautifully pitched voice.

The CD is 78:19 minutes and nothing negative can be found in that time.
