Here's a band that ignores clock-time, in order to take listners to a tropical paradise-of-the-mind with their new release. This CD is a feast of ukulele, marimba, steel guitar, flute, sitar and exotic, un-pronounceable stringed instruments. Four songs feature the passionate vocals of Kristi Rose and elsewhere there are touches of vocal harmony as background texture, supplied by popsters Bill Lloyd, Baniel Tashian and Brad Jones. The core of Aqua Velvet is Jim Hoke and Randy Leago, super-muscians who between them paly most of the instruments. Jim Hoke, beloved part-time NRBQ saxophonist has also played and recorded with Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Vince Gill and many others. Randy Leago is an in-demand session man who performs live with Kathy Mattea, Janis Ian and other artists of the female persuasion. Guitarist Richard Bennett, producer and musical cohort of Mark Knopfler and Duane Eddy is also a key member. The material on the new CD includes arrangments of songs of the Beach Boys, Fleetwoods, Burt Bacharach, Johnny Mathis, Todd Tundgren and Paul McCartney. Breezy, atmospheric arrangments of these pop gems embrace the listener like a cool Pina Colada. Exoctic percussion, rain-forest bird chatter and other ambient effects make this CD a unique and beautiful experince; perhaps the best accompaniment to a romantic encounter available over-the-counter.
