The Hits AND The Misses from April Wine

(2 out of 5 stars)

"I don't know what Myles and the boys were thinkin' on this one. Maybe I am not the typical April Wine fan. With 19 songs, there should be more than 5 really good tracks, don't you think? Well, there's not. You get Say Hello, Enough Is Enough, Just Between You And Me, Roller (great tune) and Sign Of The Gypsy Queen. What happened to all the other good stuff from First Glance and Nature Of The Beast? Or even from Harder...Faster? Make your own mix from these three albums and Power Play. This release is too light on the hard stuff and good stuff from the boys from Canada."

"I first saw April Wine live at the Montreal Forum about twenty years ago. I just saw them again last Saturday night (08/10/02) at the Franklin County Fair in Upstate New York. I was expecting to see a bunch of old men going through the motions, but, while the bass player and drummer have added quite a few pounds, April Wine put on a great show, playing about half of the songs on this compilation.
April Wine has many compilations out there, and, except for their boxed set, none has all of their essential tracks. This one comes close, but I'm only giving it four stars instead of five because of the absence of "Bad Side of the Moon," "Oowatanite," "I Like to Rock," and "All Over Town." Those four tracks should have taken the place of the less essential tracks on this compilation: "Love Has Remembered Me"; "Tell Me Why"; "What If We Fall in Love"; and "You Won't Dance With Me."
But, all in all, a great compact disc with great music."
