Amazon.comDutton Laboratories has done the world a favor in resurrecting these original 78-rpm shellac pressings of three great classics of American romanticism. The greater miracle is that Dutton has engineered out the hissings and poppings that were, until a few years ago, almost impossible to avoid in analog transfers. The dates for recording are: Appalachian Spring--1945, Lincoln Portrait--1946, and Hanson's Symphony 3--1940. Serge Koussevitzky fairly made the careers of American composers in the 1930s and 1940s, and you can see why. He was a master sculptor who understood the lyrical nuances of each work he put his baton to. And if you haven't heard Lincoln Portrait lately, this one will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Very highly recommend. --Paul Cook
