Synopsis

Amazon.com
Listen to the way the Albert-Schweitzer-Quintett accelerates the tempo at the end of the first movement of Op. 100, No. 1. You will realize how carefully planned and executed these interpretations are, while managing to sound thoroughly spontaneous. This volume of the ongoing Reicha set includes two large wind quintets, both around half an hour long and both substantial and entertaining enough to sustain that length. The encore is a charming one-movement Adagio by Reicha. This series came out in the late 1980s and continues to dominate the field of Reicha wind quintets, which, as soon as you hear any of these discs, you will realize is an important field indeed, some of the greatest unknown music of the classical period. --Leslie Gerber

Reicha: Volume 3 of Complete Wind Quintets/Schweitzer Wind Q
Ronald M. Radlein | Los Angeles, CA | 01/03/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This music by Anton Reicha (a contemporary of Beethoven), which seems to appeal primarily to afficionados of wind instruments, really deserves a broader audience. Its varying moods are charming both lyrically and technically; and the expressive qualities of the instruments are neatly displayed. The Schweitzer Quintet features five musicians who, though not widely known, are masters who know how to blend or shine as the music warrants. Acquire this CD for your collection. If you can find the other volumes, get them too."
