Not one of Annie's Best!

"Annie Gallup is one of my favorite singer-songwriters, and her unique and lyrical storytelling style on this CD seems to be up to her usual high standards. I say "seems to be", because the heavy-handed and intrusive accompaniment all but obscures Annie's velvety-smooth vocals in most of the tracks. There are also highy distracting special effects on many songs. I thought my CD player was skipping when I listened to some tracks, especially the introduction to track 1!
My favorite tracks are "Lori's Long Legs" and "Tulsa". I am unable to understand why we have to listen to silence in "Intermission", the first time I played the CD, I thought it was all over, and missed the interesting "Interview", and the final track "Synopsis", which is also one of the better tracks on the CD.
In summary, if you are new to Annie's music, try one of her other releases first. If you are addicted to her interesting and sensuous vocal style, as I am, you will want to buy this CD anyway!"
Another Triumph

"Gallup's albums are all challenging, all brilliant, and though she certainly has a distinct
style & voice, also varied. This one in some ways is her most ambitious: almost a
song cycle or odd kaleidoscopic 'novel' w. music, even a self-interview 'self criticism,' and a host of characters who keep appearing, changing, reappearing in different guises. I do find the 'Intermission' silence a bit over the top and unecessary, but I suppose it's a decided 'break' leading to final section. I think the other production ideas though are very good & add some underpining to her voice/guitar. Of course, I like the 'stark' Annie of "Steady Steady Yes" and others too. I still think "Courage My Love" is my fave AG, but this and the others are also really excellent. Nobody is really quite like Annie-- & that's amazing in this day and age!"
The work of a true and free artist

"This CD is amazing. Annie tried something a little bit different, for the better! She always was a free artist, and I think she reaches her artistical zenith here. A natural evolution. The sound of this CD is excellent, it has an experimental edge that reminds of John Cale, Lou Reed and the adventurous side of Joni Mitchell. Anyway, she's a real author and anyone interested in art and poetry should buy all of her work."
