CD ReviewsA Great Listen for Young and Old Donna Sobieski | Ijamsville, MD USA | 08/31/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is an enchanting rendition of the tale of Scheherazade and her story of Sinbad and the Wizard Eagle. We bought it as a story CD for my 4-year-old son, and he asks to listen to it again and again. I am happy to hear it as many times as he asks because the orchestration is wonderful and Ann Rachlin's telling of the tale is charming and irresistible. What a wonderful way to introduce a kid to classical music! And what a great way to enjoy a favorite symphonic piece!" Wonderfully blended narration and music chicago reader | minneapolis, mn | 05/02/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "In this cd Ann Rachlin narrates Sheherazade's Tale of Sinbad from the Arrabian Nights, occompanying Rimsky-Korsakov's "Sheherazade." She is so masterful at blending her story into the music that when she pauses for a minute or two, as she often does at especially exciting or beautiful passages in the music, one hardly notices that she is gone, and the music seems to echo and reinforce her words. This music is really beautiful, and the story is a simple fairy-tale set long ago amidst exotic adventures. I play this frequently for the kindergartners I work with during their rest time, and I see their eyes stare into the distance as they are transported by the music and story. Children sometimes clap at the happy ending and through-out the cd act out the story with their bodies, marching with the army and banging the floor with the symbols. This cd is a lovely story combined with lovely music, producing something special and unique for children and enjoyable for adults"
