"On the first listen, the only words that came to mind were: soulful, dark and raw. These guys can paint a picture like few artists out there today. It is very obvious that these guys know their trade, every track grabs you by the throat and holds on. While I wasn't sure I liked the singer the first pass, he grew on me and eventually won me over to the opinion that this was "his" material and no one else could express the feelings in quite the same way. I can't get this one out of the player just yet."
Yawn

"I was a fan of WASP back in the day, so when I happened across this CD (featuring Randy Piper, ex-WASP) I figured I check it out. The first song's pretty good, but man is it downhill from there. I have to admit I was pretty surprised at how weak the guitar solos are. I mean, this is Randy Piper's band. You'd think he'd put on some ripping guitars or something, but they're not on here. Some of the songs sound like 4-track demos. I know Animal isn't on a major label or anything, but nowadays you can do some pretty decent recording for minimal $$. These guys must've blown whatever money they did have on beer, because they didn't spend it in the studio. Nor did they spend it on the album cover. Who designed this thing??? I've seen better artwork from special ed kids.Weak. Just weak."
I Want To Love This Album but...

"let me say right up front,I am one of the biggest W.A.S.P fans in the world and so when I came across 'Animal' featuring one of the original members of Wasp,I had to buy it immediately...
I was expecting the same great in your face fury and what I got was ummm well,to be fair, the band sounds great
the songs are not bad, they have a lot of potential, but what really kills this CD is the production
I'm not quite sure what went wrong but something went wrong during the mix process...it's almost unlistenable
and I'm sure the band felt the same because the follow up is leaps and bounds above this,it sounds like a whole new band
now to be fair '900 lb steam' really does have some decent songs..the title track,'Pissed Off' and 'Never' are all great tracks that make this worth owning, and 'Another Victim' also is a great rocking tune...in fact you can hear a lot of similarities between 'Animal' and 'Wasp' on a lot of the songs the singer sounds extremely similar to Blackie Lawless
(which is not easy to do) and this CD shows the potential for greatness that the band has (and follows through with on the next album)
the upside - some strong songs from an original member of W.A.S.P and it definitely will bring back lots of memories
the downside - one of the worst productions I've ever heard
the bottom line - worth buying if you are a collector or a huge fan of W.A.S.P...if you are just looking for great songs and music to bang your head to,then check out their next one 'Violent New Breed' donutman says so!!!"
Incredible singer

"I love this cd, the singer has incredible vocals and his melodic screams are held for longer than seemingly possible. Once these songs get into your head you won't be able to get them out. Where has this band been? We have needed something like this out for awhile."
