"The range of colour and texture that the remarkable young flautist obtains is hauntingly beautiful." -THE GUARDIAN André Jolivet (1905-1974) was one of the most admired French composers of the mid-twentieth century, and at one time there were fairly abundant recordings of his works. Like many composers, his star has faded a bit since his death, as the world has gone on to other things ? but like all good composers, his star will rise again, and this recording goes some way to help it along. While utterly different from each other, the pieces recorded here cover almost the entire creative life of Jolivet. Mario Caroli is one of the outstanding masters of the flute in Italy today.
