"I fell over "Phallus Dei" a couple of years ago, exactly in the period that I was searching for something new,spacey,tripped-that is to say, something far away from the usual.1969 A.D. and some friends and musicians from Germany, decide to surprise and become perhaps the most usual band that comes to mind, when the discussion is referring to "German underground of that era".The cover shows a tree in the front, some figures hiding or running and a monument in the background-all in an astonishing psychedelic pale blue color;the presence of romanticism is obvious, empowered by the lyrics in old German. The epic mood of "Kanaan",a song that could be the the soundtrack of movies related to the Old Testament, opens the cd.The gloomy "Dem Guten,Schonen,Wahren" in an extremely heavy atmosphere, follows up.Weird vocals, strange meta-physical voices;the perfect music for one that is found alone in a Cathedral, hidden in the deep forest, forgotten by people."Luzifers Ghilom",with its demonic violin riff, could easily follow the strange solo dancing of Satan. Some elements of the 60`s are clear here."Henriette Krofenschwanz",a melodic march-the angels announce the erection(!) and arrival of "Phallus Dei".Excellent introduction. And now to the final:A total chaos,a psychedelic/space bad trip,so dark and medieval,so intense,so...cosmic.Contains all and nothing at the same time...This record, though it is extremely demanding, pays off well emotionally...Enjoy!"
