"I saw Alvin Lee with a power trio at the old Tree Cafe in Portland, Maine in the summer of 87. It was a small club with little space on the floor, plus a balcony above. I ended up standing the whole show just to the left of the band, who were on a tiny stage.
The show was fantastic! He was promoting Detroit Diesel at the time, and I went out the next day and bought it.
He'd played several tracks from the album, plus some Ten Years After stuff, and I was hooked. The title track has a nasty guitar solo, "Just Another Night" and "Ordinary Man" are also really good tracks.
George Harrison added some great slide guitar to the heavy, slow "Talk Don't Bother Me." A good blues track.
This is no-frills rock and roll, good guitar work, Lee singing his guts out and a heavy drummer. Well worth it!"
