Album Description1997?s "Punk Life" represented Alternative TV's first album of new material in about four years. The band consisted of founder member Mark Perry with help from various friends who Mark had been working with over the previous few years. "Punk Life" is an eclectic mix of styles which reflects Mark's interest n a wide range of musical forms. As well as Alternative TV's usual guitar workouts on tracks "Give Me Love" and "Jesus On The Mainline", Mark experiments with techno on a tribute to the old industrial group Throbbing Gristle on "Alternative TG" and Can-like trip-hop on "Guntai Wa Moumoku". The latter track is sung by Japanese singer Miza Mizushima who is a member of Mark's other band Baby Ice Dog. "Unlikely Star" finds the band in a poppy mood and the freeform title track, "Punk Life" features a ranting lyric about Mark's early involvement in the 70's punk rock scene. All in all, with this album, Alternative TV, once again refuse to be an act that can be easily categorised.
