CD ReviewsSaintly, but Kills! D. Braden | Denver, CO | 12/19/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Dale Crover was obviously not looking to duplicate any Melvins material in this side project, but he does a damn good job channeling the predecessors of the genre. Altamont is a full-fledged southern-influenced stoner rock band, complete with cosmic weirdness and doomy heaviness. Vocally, they're aren't far off from the Melvin's Buzz Osbourne, though perhaps a bit grittier and slightly less intense. Just because this record doesn't sound exactly like the Melvins doesn't mean it won't appeal to fans of the sludge/stoner genre, as it seems to be pretty closely aligned with likeminded bands, e.g. Kyuss, Orange Goblin, Electric Wizard, the Atomic Bitchwax, and Clutch.
If you're at all a fan of of any of those bands, or a Melvins fan looking for a gritty rock experience, Altamont should definitely be looked into." |
