"as an absolute die hard almamegretta fan, i have TRIED to be forgiving and actually listen to this album. every time, i find myself hoping that i am just missing something, and it actually reflects the greatness i have come to know and love of almamegretta. but every time i do so, i get absolutely frustrated. the only word i can use for this album is forced. it's one thing to break out of your comfort zone and try something new -- that seems to be par for the course for the band of wandering spirits. it's another to lower your standards and ignore the rigor of past albums.
there are no truly memorable songs. whoever actually wrote the lyrics in english should be put in front of a firing squad. there is a euroblandness to some of the tracks that could put a raging insomniac to sleep. and the mix of napolitano musical roots with a variety of foreign flavors that adds to something magically greater than the sum of the parts is nowhere to be found on this album.
when you line up almamegretta's albums from animamigrante to imaginaria even to the most recent sciuoglie e cane, this one sticks out like a sore thumb that is begging to be whacked off and summarily forgotten."
