"WOW - FANTASTIC SONGS! Being a child of the 60's and an active Christian musician, last year I began doing a personal research into the music of the Jesus Movement and in the doing have rediscovered many timeless gems of the era (Larry Norman; Keith Green; etc...) but nothing I've heard had quite prepared me for the All Saved Freak Band.
After hearing some impressive sound clips and finding out a little about the history of the ASFB I was interested enough to order this CD, and I am really glad I did... I fell in love with the sound and spirit of this truly origional band immediatly!
The All Saved Freak Band is vibrantly artistic, deep, and quite varied in both instrumental and vocal prowess - perhaps the best thing about them is the overriding heart for God evident in all their songs, no matter what the style (and be advised: this band excells in MANY styles and dynamics!) upon hearing them you KNOW they have personally "walked the talk" of faith thru some valleys.
Being a guitarist I particularly enjoyed Glenn Schwartz's fantastic & blusey rock lead inputs combined with the clear bell chime of Joe Markko's vocals and acoustic 6 & 12 string rhythm parts. After getting this CD I immediatly ordered the other 4 CD's and was so impressed: there is even more... ALOT more! This band is a national treasure, and has a wealth of great Christian songs that simply cannot be captured on one disc, even one as ambitious as "Harps On Willows" - a visit to the ASFB webpage shows the ASFB is planning a more comprehensive 2 CD release next year, and that is the ONLY reason this CD didn't quite rate 5 stars... I want more! It appears that the CD set for 2008 will also include the truly stunning vocals of the Massman sisters and I plan to scarf that set up immediatly - that one will surely be a 5 out of 5.
However this is not to dissmiss "Harps On Willows" at all - in fact this profound album is an extremely good listen & I can think of no better introduction to one of the greatest and most important Christian bands to come out of the Jesus Movement.
God Bless!
