"If the name sounds familar it's because it should. Alice Coltrane was John Coltrane's wife and piano player in various incarnations of his group. She didn't record under her own name until the unfortunate passing of her husband. Due to the fact that she was the wife of such a jazz god (there really is no better word to describe him) she is often overlooked.
The truth of the matter is that Alice Coltrane is an amazing jazz pianist who is cool jazz to a T. Her music burns with a cool intensity. I know this sounds impossible but if you don't believe me buy the CD and give it a try. It is also unthinkable for me to finish this review without pointing out how much her spirituality pours out of the speakers. This is a good collection of a great artist. If this is your first introduction to Alice Coltrane or your looking for a place to expand your collection you can't go wrong with this album."
