CD Reviews

The Last of the Teenage Idols
Mr. Richard D. Coreno | Berea, Ohio USA | 07/07/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"His third album after the dissolution of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band and released posthumously in 1983, Alex Harvey leans heavily on narrative elements as he expresses concern (pessimism?) over war games.

Roman Wall Blues harkans back to a previous Harvey album - it was the title of a 1969 release - with Billy Bolero, Flowers Mr. Florist and Snowshoes Thompson being the choice cuts. The nine total tracks clock in at 40:32, with the theme structured around The Poet and I and the song's reprise.

The band - Tony Lambert, Tommy Eyre and George Hall (key), Ian Taylor (g), Jack Dawe and Gordon Sellers (b), Colin Griffin (d), Andy Nolan (per) - provides Harvey a full sound to weave his unique lyrical artistry. Give My Compliments to the Chef, indeed.

"Soldier on the Wall, a review; They took there time and made sure the sound quality came out excellant on this CD. Alex does sound a little tired out by this point in his career. The band is not quite up to par as the old SAHB. But the music is still vintage Alex Harvey. Any true fan would be greatly satisfied to have this in their collection."
Alex still rocks !

"I can't believe I never new of thie existence of this album until a link on Amazon showed it. I thought it must be some old SAHB stuff rehashed after his departure. However, I was surprised and absolutely delighted with the album. ALex at his brilliant , unique, celtic self.

Billy Bolero and Mitzi and ... well ALL of the tracks are fantastic. I listened to the album on Saturday night over dinner and smiled the whole time. The next day working in the garage I blasted it full blast while singing along ;-) Magic Alex, gone but not forgotten.

its now on my iPod and I'm sure Billy Bolero will be my "power" song...."
