Synopsis

Album Description
2007 reissue of the Hawkwind bassist's second solo album that was originally released in 1997 on the Emergency Broadcast System. This reissue adds a four-track recording made in 1987, 'Sand Devil', as a bonus track to the original album lineup. The album is mostly instrumental, with only two tracks featuring vocals. Davey blends Rock and ambient motifs with former Hawkwind bassist Sean Massett appearing on guitar and Danny Thompson Jr. (son of renowned bassist Danny Thompson), creating an exciting mix of styles. Alan Davey - 'Human On The Outside' (Voiceprint)
Mike Reed | USA | 11/01/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Ah! The very latest (of many) releases by Alan Davey - now (so I've heard) DEFINITELY a 'former member' of Hawkwind. Wonder what's going on with that. Total of thirteen well-penned tracks as only Davey can pull off. Starts off with the all too-brief "Atmospheric" which leads right into the *ss-kicking seven-minute "Years Ago Miles Away". Other notable cuts include the almost new age-like "Marine Snow", "Nothing Is Weird" (featuring a female vocalist), both the melodic space rockers here "Ethnic Mosaic, Part 1" and "Ethnic Mosaic, Part 2" and the synthesizer driven "Delusions Of Ganja". Basically, if you dig Alan Davey's other titles, you won't be disappointed with this one. A should-have."

"This is Alan Davey (Hawkwind's bass player for so many years that he not Lemmy really defines the classic Hawkwind bass sound)at his best so far. He draws on many influences-- Hawkwind, of course, metal, Arabic music and more. He has used a range of vocalists and produced a very interesting collection of pieces ranging from from heavy space rock to heady ambience.

Frankly, Davey's music is more creative than Space Ritual (Nik Turner)and has more real innovation than recent Hawkwind releases. Very well worth listening too. His new album should consolidate the progress he has made here."
