"This product is the 2005 re-release of an ATP album recorded in 1998. It starts with the seven tracks from the original album -- six originals plus a Four Horseman cover -- but adds two tracks from their 2000 split EP with Halfway to Gone and one track (a Captain Beyond cover) from a cooperative release with Orange Goblin.



Like all ATP albums, River City Revival has a foundation in Southern metal -- think a cross between Birmingham, England, and Birmingham, Alabama -- but offers a unique sound that sets it apart from the others. On this one the vocalist (Johnny Throckmorton) tends to lay out longer, allowing the instrumentalists to savor the Sabbath-like groove of a song's chords or to play around with subtle variations in the sound or pacing of a particular line. When he does sing, Throckmorton sometimes sounds punkish (which the contrast with the more metal-influenced vocals on the bonus tracks really brings out). This is a rough album -- the band clearly hasn't achieved the mastery over their instruments that would appear on later releases such as Fulton Hill, or even what they exhibit on the bonus tracks -- but what it lacks in polish it makes up by a mixture of fun and boozy moodiness."

"As one of the first releases of Alabama Thunderpussy, the band breaks through with their smashing album, River City Revival. A re-issue of their original late 90's release, River City Revival comes remastered with a couple of bonus tracks to boot.



With thundering hooks and riffs and booze-filled vocals, ATP stands out amongst rock bands of today in that they have a unique sound that incorporates many different bands of yesterday. The unique thing about ATP is their undying ability to make each and every track on every album they put just flat out rock. They use the bass guitar heavily and still manage to put out a great sound despite the humming boom. While having different singers throughout the years, ATP is a band of harmony, melody and groove. All their albums and success throughout the years is a product of that.



With influences from Soundgarden to Motorhead and Skynyrd alike, ATP has uncovered the raw power of what today's rock and roll is all about. Using your talents to the best of your abilities and staying true to themselves and to their fan base of hardcore rockers with no interest in the mainstream rock of today. You will hear similarities in their sound from bands like Corrosion of Conformity, Sixty Watt Shaman and Down, three other bands that have taken this genre to new heights and beyond. "I had a chance to meet some of the guys like Eric Larson and Bryan Cox and have a few shots and some beers. I First saw them open for COC and I have been hooked since the first riff.



This album is balls to the wall metal. I have trouble describing it because it is such a unique sound that gives way to their influences from Sabbath to Skynyrd. I have told my friends try to imagine what it would sound like if Black Sabbath had been born and raised in Alabama instead of Birmingham, England.



All I can say is buy this frigging album. If you are like me and are sick of all the cookbook rock out there then this will cure what ales ya. I believe Alabama Thunderspussy is 1 of the 2 most under rated metal bands in the world. (Monster Magnet is the other)
