"Look out when you hear "Echoes of New Orleans." It has one of those hooks that worms its way into my head and it's so uplifting. Who doesn't find old New Orleans jazz uplifting?
I recall seeing Al on a gig once after he wrote Echoes of New Orleans but before the album was released. Al thought it was going to be a "hit." On the gig he played it and it has one of those instant memorable licks -- complicated, but simple at the same time. It is definitely masterful trombone playing, from of our serious jazz masters in this country."
