Fighting stereotypes and resisting pressure, Aisha Raine, a Washington, D.C. area native, releases her debut independent alternative/rock CD, Never Broken . Raine believes her album will help prove her motto, black chicks CAN Rock! After fending off music industry pressure to record a more urban based album, Raine has released a rock album that defies conventional expectations for a young, Black woman. She has kept to what is true to her a style that embraces her sharp edge, hard truths, and more than once broken heart. I ve always tried to do what s right by me and not what others believe is best, says Raine. With rock I can bare my soul and truly feel free. On her album title Never Broken , Aisha Raine says, represents my soul. There are cracks and scars, but I m still standing. The fervently concocted sound blended with often edgy, but always strong lyrics, create a scope of different shades of rock ranging from acoustic and pop/rock to nu-metal and industrial to aggressive and edgy, pushing on hard rock. All of this with a modern rock blend is what makes up Never Broken and Aisha Raine. She believes that each of the 11 songs will share her history and connect with her fans showing them that they are not alone in the pain they go through. Too many of us go through stressful situations and feel that no one understands. A lot of music out there speaks of love and happiness, but what we re seeing more often these days is the emergence of the emotional song that delves into the darker sides of life. I ve been through a lot. Songs by artists that spoke to my soul are the ones that helped fuel and heal me. Knowing someone else understands is sometimes just what s needed to keep you going and moving through the darkness. Her songs tell listeners not to EVER let anyone keep you down because they think they re better than you ( D.O.G. ) and to stand up and always be yourself ( Who I Am ). Wicked and Break Away allude to escaping relationships gone bad. Let Go and Losing Grip speak of the unavoidable strains of the world and the people that surround and affect you no matter what you do. Influenced by artists like Linkin Park, Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, Evanescence, and P!nk, Aisha Raine strives to shake up the music world. She works towards showing the world that Black Chicks CAN Rock and hopes to aide in dissolving stereotypes and societal expectations, proving that music truly is color blind. She believes Never Broken will help do just that.
