Synopsis

Album Description
Burning The Shroud is a collection of Aeternus songs compiled from various sources. The title track is new and will be on the full length album with a different mix. Songs 2-3 are previously unreleased and exclusive to this CD. The four live tracks were recorded and mixed by Pytten (Immortal, Emperor, Enslaved) and still prove AETERNUS' strength as a live band. The final 3 tracks were only available either as a 7-inch or bonus track on a limmited edition "And So..." tour CD.

CD Reviews

"Burning the Shroud"

(3 out of 5 stars)

""Burning the Shroud" is the definition of a stop gap release. One new song, which is slated to appear on the next eagerly awaited album (although in a different mix), a couple unreleased songs as well as a few more rescued from obscure 7"s and foreign releases, and of course the obligatory live set. To be fair, the live tracks sound pretty good for a death metal release and the band are fairly proficient at this kind of brooding, long distance style of extreme music (average song length: six minutes). That being said, there is a definite, though acceptable, drop off in sound quality towards the end of the disc. As the band have four other releases under their belt, this doesn't seem to be something the neophyte would want to start with, and though talented, Aeternus aren't quite in that elite crowd whose every recorded note is a much purchase."
