"I've known this music most of my life, but Makowitz finds things in it that I never realized were there--delightful, surprising, someties even profound things.



To anyone who loves Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, Dick Hyman and their ilk, I say listen to this. The technique is absolutely flawless, the imagination superb and the respect for the original melody heartening.



In particular, what Makowicz does with "Cheek to Cheek" and "Blue Skies" is breathtaking. The others are merely excellent.



Buy it, you'll love it."

"This brilliant pianist brought plenty of harmonic spirit and inspiration to these interpretations. There have been numerous Irving Berlin projects, and this one wasn't very different from the standpoints of song selection, respectful attitude, etc. But this was a showcase for Makowicz! The pianist's arrangements are full of surprising twists and his unpredictable flights result in some of the familiar songs being given impressive treatments."
