"I heard another acme rocket quartet record the other day. I had no idea who they were, but the album cover had a sort of dithered video image of a mannequin woman stretched all over the place... My attention was caught. I was not terribly impressed with this album (I can't recall what it was called, or if it had a name, and you can't seem to get at it on amazon). It was too cheesey, like mediocre progressive jazz on some tracks.However, UHF seems to have been an evolution or transformation of Acme RQ for the better. I really like this album. Imagine Tortoise with less epic/narrative expanses and more of an elevator-music-from-Venus sort of feel, throw in an allusion to Combustible Edison lounge, and you have the Acme Rocket Quartet's new album. I would recommend this record to anyone who enjoys Tortoise and that whole Thrill Jockey experience."
