"i'd really give this 3.5 stars, if i could. club 8's johann pulls double duty, splitting time between club 8 and acid house kings, proving he's more than capable of continually cranking out quality pop tunes. where club 8 leans a little more towards the elctronic side, AHK employs a little more acoustic approach.
what AHK has going for it are irresistable pop tunes, able musicianship, and pleasant vocals. top tracks include 'sunday morning,' 'she keeps hoping,' and 'swedish hearts.' for as good as these tracks are, you can't help but think johann saved his good stuff for club 8. i could be wrong, though.
'mondays are like tuesdays...' sounds like it could have been released 40 years ago. much like saint etienne and birdie, AHK incorporate xylophones and brass into the music, giving a kitschy sound without coming off as pretentious (no small achievement in twee-pop); and AHK do it in style, exhibiting their skill at crafting three minute pop songs.
a couple of songs, however, border on the just-a-bit-too-sickly-sweet side of things. some of the ba-ba-ba's and cutesy acoustic guitars come off sounding like really bad john denver songs; but fortunately, those songs are few.
by and large 'mondays are like tuesdays...' is a solid pop album by a yet another in a long line of quality scandanavian pop groups. AHK won't turn your world upside down, but if you wear cardigans and mittens, sip herbal tea in hip uptown coffee houses, and talk about the latest fashions, AHK are definitely for you."
