It looks like Newbuild, it sounds like Newbuild...

"This is the quintessential collector's item. It's old, it's dated, and the tracklist is a bit of a disorganized jumble. For those who don't know, 808 State are a pioneering Manchester acid house collective. Later, in the mid-90s, they began exploring all sorts of other electronic styles and collaborating with many talented vocalists to amazing effect. But this disc has none of that. This was back when they were poor and were using 303s and cheap boxes and scractchy old tapes scrounged out of studio dustbins to make their recordings. This is straight old old old school acid house, cavernous, lo-fi, and full of delightfully dated synthesized squelches and blips. If you're affiliated with 808 State or with old school '80s electronica, this is a must-have. If you're affilliated with neither, you will probably hate it and dismiss it as obnoxious noise. Basically, for 808 State fans, it's very much like Newbuild, not as cohesive and memorable, but a good pickup if Newbuild left you hungry for more."
