"I first heard a few movements from Dieupart's Suites on the classic David Munrow LP "The Amorous Flute" (Argo, 1974) and have been a fan of this music ever since. Sergio Balestracci and his cohorts play this music with a fine sense of style and ensemble. The instruments used are fascinating to listen to, especially the "Voice Flute" (tenor recorder in D) played in four of the six suites. The harpsichord used, a copy of an 18th century original by Blanchet, has a sound that matches its rich decoration. My only complaint is that it would have been nice to have at least one of the suites played on solo harpsichord; a certain sameness in texture would have been somewhat less evident. After all, Dieupart wrote this music with that possibility in mind, as I learned the excellent liner notes. Aside from that, this is another wonderful CD from the Italian Stradivarius label."
