"I'm sure I would have bought the complete 12 Concerti Grossi form Corelli, in order to have the double enjoyment. But I still have to rate this record with 5 stars.Corelli is for me the first great musician in the Baroque period. Chonologically, he would belong to the middle Baroque period, before the marvellous trio (Vivaldi, Händel and Bach). Sure these three inmortal musicians do own their talent to their predecessors and Corelli is the most important.Apart from the magnificent composition, I must say a word of the playters: Pinnock, of course, is the director of the English Concert and the harpsichord player. But in this record, Standage is the star. The Stradivarius violin takes out the essence of Corelli's feelings. Apart from being the most popular, the performance in the Christmas Concert is incredible, not only for his virtuosity, but for the emotional pitch given to the voice of the violin.Baroque lovers mustn't miss Corelli's work. Baroque is not understandable without him."
