Album Description"?Utmost musicianship and technical proficiency are provided. These are men whose golden instruments produce full tones and rich varieties of color." -WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL The musical term Centone refers to the practice of combining separate works by one composer, or by different composers. In his Centones, Verne Reynolds has arranged pieces by Guillaume Dufay, Thomas Weelkes, Claude LeJeune, Isaac Posch, Johann Fux and Christopher Tye. The Suite for Brass Quintet was completed in May 1963, and was first performed by the Eastman Brass Quintet, for whom it was written, in July of that year. The Quintet made its debut in 1961 as a feature of the annual summer Brass Institute at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. These performances are rare recordings from 1975 that show the Quintet in the early days of their brilliant career, blazing a trail in their field.
