When it comes to Schumann's piano music, I could not think of any pianists today who can match the depth of expression and poetry Richter could reach. There are many recordings of C major Fantasie by the master, and this one is certainly one of the finest. (There is also Rubinstein's magical RCA recording of the work, better recorded and more etherial than Richter's) All works on this disc were monoral recording (1956), but surprisingly good for the date." |
