CD ReviewsThe saints came&went Amaranth | Northern California | 07/26/2008 (2 out of 5 stars) "U2 and Green Day's "The Saints are Coming" revived the spirits of New Orleans when the Super Dome was reopened after Hurricane Katrina. The song was for a good cause (Bono is ALWAYS behind good causes!),but, musically, does it work? Does it have a longer shelf life than "Do they know it's Christmas" and "We are the world"? "The Saints are Coming" opens with a musical shout-out to the House of the Rising Sun. It's supposed to be a lament, but Bono sounds sanctimonious and Green Day's front man sounds whiny. It's forgettable, easy listening rock. The Edge contributes a few electrifying riffs. "The Saints are Coming"... came and went." Buy a NEW one, it's a worthy cause freereign | Ocean of Corn, MN | 01/10/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "When you buy this, a little money goes to help New Orleans recover from Katrina--yes, kids, they STILL need lots of help. BushCo talked a lot of talk, but still didn't jump in and help. Their conservative notion of "life" is just to let this town go since it's gradually falling into the ocean anyway.
This is not a political statement. If you think it is, go down there and look around or shut up. OH yeah, by the way "The Saints Are Coming" by The Skids is ALSO a tribute to Stewart Adamson of Big Country--this was his band before you heard "In A Big Country", and he had recently passed. Sorry if I sound preachy. You probably could use the heads-up to make YOU appreciate your life better: Life or death, your choice every step you take in this world. Choose life, brothers and sisters, choose it every day and live it like you mean it." |
