Synopsis

Album Description

Music has always been re-used, re-cycled and re-worked throughout history. Pianist Soyeon Lee presents an unprecedented platform for bringing exceptional classical music and environmental awareness together through her unique program, Re!nvented. The CD features slections that have in some way been reused, transcribed, or wholly revisited. The packaging for this release are the world's most eco-friendly CD packages - made from chip bags collected by millions of school children in North America, each case is unique. The CD is encased in a sleeve made from compressed shredded Frito Lay bags and paper derived from elephant dung, the packaging is comprised entirely of up-cycled materials. Terracycle has designed and constructed this package exclusively for this release.

"Soyeon Lee has long been considered a pianist to watch, it is clear from her sophomore recording that she has arrived. The album is exquisite, the Bach is very moving, the Ravel is thrilling, and the Albeniz is simply beautiful. I am looking forward to her performance with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra in May 2010.

"So I was surprised to get a copy of Re!nvented by Soyeon Lee. Before I swoon over her piano playing ability I need to swoon over the package. It's made from shredded and compressed chip bags. Very clever! Apparently Terracycle, the company that produced this package, collected chip bags from school kids who used this exercize as a fund-raiser, shredded them and compressed them into the covers of the CD package. Very Clever!

Soyeon is a sensitive and amazing pianist. I have to specifically call out her performance of La Valse by Ravel. The arrangement squeezed the entire orchestra into the piano and her deft touch made it sound as if it was originally written for piano. EXCELLENT!"
