Synopsis

Album Description
Seven complete operas starring the great Franco Corelli! Seven great live opera recordings at budget price in one space-saving set, featuring a twenty-four-page booklet with biographies, detailed listings, and historic photos! Exciting live recordings taped 1954-1964. Franco Corelli (1921-2003), by virtue of his thrilling tenor voice and handsome stage presence, was one of the most popular opera singers on the international scene in the third quarter of the twentieth century, facing only a handful of serious rivals. At the height of his career, Corelli displayed a melodious legato, a big and noble sonority, and a remarkable ability to project a vivid personality into the interpretation of his best roles. He was heard in the great opera houses around the world, partnered with the greatest sopranos of the day including Callas, Tebaldi, Nilsson, and Sutherland. Corelli is considered by many to have been the last of the great Italian "heroic tenors."

CD Reviews

An All-Star Opera Festival and such a low price!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I could call this set a treasure for opera fans. I have a few of this Bravissimo Opera Library Box Sets and I would say this is the best among them. The set not only features the great voice of Corelli, in each opera a great soprano sings against him. Callas, Sutherland, Nilsson, Price, Milanov, Tebaldi are all in this set. The sound and recording is much better than other sets. Other than voices of coughing and hands clapping at times, there is nothing much to disturb the listener.

If you are a beginner of opera, you should definitely get this set. Most famous operas and most famous stars all together.

If you are an opera fanatic and already have a good collection, this set could still have a good part in your library, if you dont already have the same live recordings.

Boxing may be a problem for you as in all Bravissimo sets, CDs are placed in plain sleeves but the external cover is a hard material and is enough to protect them.

Price is really low for this set."
