CD Reviews

Mancini's Touch of Gold!
07/27/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This '59 RCA Living Stereo re-issue ranks among the very finest of Mancini's title albums. Not to be confused with "Touch of Evil", "Mancini Touch" offers sweet catchy Jazz polished with strings. Like Artie Shaw and Charlie Parker before him, Mancini engineers just the right amount of said strings for sweetness and avoiding the sacharine . Beautifully recorded, this CD offers a number of covers including Ralph Burns' "Bijou" (covered also by Woody Herman) and Claude Thornhill's "Snowfall". A must for any Mancini Fan."
Mancini's magic evident on sublime recording
Darryl Geddes | Syracuse, NY | 02/10/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The smooth sound of Henry Mancini is sweetly rendered on this impressive disc. Mancini has the knack to play easy listening music with an edge. You hear electric guitars, vibes and other arrangements that keep his music distinct from other wannabees. Andre Previn's "Like Young," Mancini's own "Cool Shade of Blue," and "That's All" by Bob Haymes are magic. The one letdown is that this CD clocks in at only 34 minutes."
