"A record that's like Natalie Cole Unforgettable (except no overdubs) or Queen Latifa's "Dana Owen's" record - great singing, classic songs, top notch orchestra and jazz players.
IMHO the ballads are the standouts, such as The Nearness of You, and Sabora Mi. These are the songs that benefit the most from LaTanya's rich, yet clear voice. When they take it down to nothing but LaTanya and guitar for Sergio Mendez Like A Lover... Wow. If this was the love song in a broadway show this would be the moment where you could hear a pin drop and there would be not a dry eye in the house when it was over."

"Great listening music; makes me appreciate Mr. Gershwin's talent even more.
I heard a song (It's a Lazy Afternoon) from this CD while listening to KJazz 88.l; had to fit it into the budget. I immediately searched Amazon and was "listening to the grass grow" within days! Romantic, sensual, fun!

"This is a long awaited triumph. Ms. .Hall has been in the background far too long. the vocals are fresh and beautiful. Great romantic dinner music. Move over Michael Buble. There's a new girl in town!"

"La Tanya's exuberant, altruistic clarity resonates in every tune. ' It IS about time' classic favs are sung with an entirely new style all LaTanya's own. "Nearness of You", "I've Got It Bad", and "You Don't Know What Love Is" are all examples of brilliant interpretations by a grand talent."

"There are a handful of records that, irregardless of style, are able to withstand the test of time. Some of these that quickly come to mind are "Sergeant Pepper" and "Abbey Road" by the Beatles, "The Nat King Cole Trio Recordings, vol. 1-4", "Calypso" by Harry Belafonte, "Tommy" by the Who, "Unforgetable" by Dinah Washington, "Brasil" and "Vocalese" by the Manhattan Transfer, "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye, "Are You Experienced?" by Jimi Hendrix...... these are all albums that I would love to have with me if I were shipwrecked and marooned on a deserted island for a couple of years!
This debut release album by extraordinary singer LaTanya Hall, appropriately titled, "It's About Time" enters easily into my list, along with the other classic performances I've mentioned! Since moving to NYC in the mid-nineties, it was truly only a matter of time before the entire world would come to know and appreciate LaTanya's smooth and sultry and completely versatile voice. Completely comfortable with an intimate love song such as "Like a Lover", Ms Hall is also able to steer the reins of an orchestra and take it where she wants to go, as evidenced on "It's All Right With Me". Her rendition of "Sabor A Mi" comes across as genuine and sincere, a feat not easily accomplished when singing in a foreign language! Again, the only artists who've done this successfully (that come to mind quickly) have been Nat King Cole and Julio Iglesias...
This is definitely a "must-have" CD which will provide you with wonderful listening pleasure for years to come!
