Anna Tomowa-Sintow's voice is small, which is not a problem in a recording, and superbly controlled, which is a great asset. Yuri Mazorok, in his third recording of Onegin, knows exactly what to do with the role. Nicolai Gedda, one of the century's great tenors, sings with exemplary style though his voice has lost some of its youth and freshness. A good bet, but the Philips set, under Bychkov, is better. --Joe McLellan
