"Storyville is one of the few labels that come up with
real new Ellington stuff. This release is no exception.
After the very special 'TogoBrava Suite' (studio)album
and the splendid album: 'Jaywalker' here is:
'THE PIANO PLAYER'. One that grows on you!
Wild Bill Davis does an excellent (very subtile) job here!
An album so beautiful so timeless...to be played over
and over again.
The original mastertapes (recorded 1962-1970) were used
for this issue. Note: tracks 8-13 was rec.on 11 May 1970
not on 11 May 1971. The very informative inlay
-written by Bjarne Busk- gives the right date,
the backcover gives accidently 1971.
Duke Ellington (piano); Wild Bill Davis (organ)
Joe Benjamin (double bass); Rufus Jones (drums)

This is awesome music. Duke Ellington evokes transcendental
feelings by playing not a note to much like Thelonious Monk
did with comparable result.
Be warned: Order and you'll be sleeping near your mailbox
till it arrives.
If you like 'Piano Reflections' and 'The Pianist'
you can't go wrong with this one. A real must!
Other great pianoalbums by The Duke are,
'Piano Duets-Great Times!', 'Money Jungle',
and 'This One's For Blanton'."
