Not sure what you've been examining during your 'closer inspection' but I'd suggest that you might want to closely inspect the track listings for these discs again. I see a great deal of overlapping.
Still a great album, certainly worthy of 5 stars, but I stand behind what I wrote earlier. Get one -or the other- but ya don't need both. Unless you're a completist. Period. End of discussion. 'Nuff said.

ORIGINAL REVIEW from 2006.04.19:
This appears to be a nicely done re-packaging of the "16 BIGGEST HITS" disc. In fact, when I ripped this disc to my 'puter it came up as....uhhuhhh, you guessed it! '16 Biggest Hits".

The Ultimate Celebration of Johnny & June's Love
The Delite Rancher | Phoenix, Arizona | 04/21/2006

""Duets" is an enjoyable compilation of the songs Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash sang together. As would be expected from a duets disc, the romance factor is high. There is a noticeable absence of songs about murder, incarceration or redemption. June brings out the lighter side of the Man in Black. If you've always wanted to get your lady friend interested in Johnny Cash, here's the disc to play. At times, the treatment is a bit corny. The 1970's symphony orchestra and background vocals negatively date some of the songs. The stripped down arrangements make for the most powerful interpretations. Despite the cheesy treatment of some tunes, it's still Johnny and June. They had beautiful voices and they sang good songs. It would be difficult to hear this compilation and not feel good. The "Walk the Line" film made the world more aware of the great relationship between June and the Man in Black. While "Carryin' On With Johnny Cash & June Carter" features additional June and Johnny tunes, "Duets" is the ultimate musical celebration of their love."
An old cd under a new name is not worth more money.....

"This cd is an exact reissue of the Johnny Cash and June Carter 16 Biggest Hits cd. One only has to compare the track listing on the Import version of this cd listed on Amazon to the 16 Biggest hits cd to see what a huge ripoff this new package is. The sound quality is likely not any better than previous issues of all of these songs, in fact it theoretically could be louder and more distorted given the way music on cd is mastered these days, but it could be that they used the old 16 Biggest Hits master and didn't even re-master the recordings. Save your money, buy the cheaper 16 Biggest Hits cd, and avoid pieces of junk like this that are put out because record companies cannot think of new ways to market recordings without rehasing the exact same thing over and over again. This cd gets one star because there is nothing special about it."
