Synopsis

Album Description
Antonio de Cabezon (1510-1566) is perhaps the best known of all composers of the Spanish Renaissance, particularly for his organ works, but this acclaimed series from Stradivarius provides a rare overview of his instrumental and vocal compositions. The present disc contains pieces from two groupings of instrumental versions of what were originally works for voices ("motetes" and "canciones"), which are alternated with "tientos" -pieces written purely for instruments. The motets and five-part songs on this recording were written by others, such as Josquin, Lassus and Clemens non Papa, and then "reinvented" by Cabezon for instruments.
