Synopsis

Amazon.com essential recording
There has never been a better showcase for improvisational rock than this 1971 concert recording, and few (if any) live rock albums are in its rank. With only two studio albums (and plenty of touring) under their belt, the Georgia sextet tore into the Fillmore East with road-tested buoyancy. Titanic guitarist Duane Allman was at the peak of his powers, pushing his foil, Dickey Betts, to unsurpassed peaks. Vocalist-keyboardist Gregg Allman would have been a star in any other setting; here he's merely one more component in a brilliant ensemble. Duane Allman died shortly after At Fillmore East shipped, and the Brothers haven't scaled such heights since. But, then, neither has anyone else. --Steven Stolder

This is NOT the origional 2 Cd recording, but a watered down version to fit on one CD.
The origional 2 CD set is UPC: 044007735329.

CD Reviews

This is not the Fillmore East CD.

"This is not the Fillmore East CD. It's a rip off of the Fillmore East CD. The Fillmore cd is a double cd. The Allman Brothers Band was one of the greatest bands in history. Some hot-shot producer apparently wanted to make some quick money watering down one of the greatest live cds ever recorded for the lame and dull witted pop lovers.

Anyone who loves the Allman brothers should be rightfully furious over such an insult to such great musicans. If you really want to hear the Fillmore East cd, then get the double cd."

"If I had $10 for every musician or good music lover

who has told me how pivotal this album was in their

development/appreciation, I would easily have one hell of a

financial nest egg! (-:

The musicianship is stellar, the soul factor that comes

out of the speakers is palpable, the vocals are warm and funky,

you just can't cut it in anyway! (-:

I first heard this album as a child...it was one of my uncle's

prized albums. I've probably heard this album over 2000 times in

my 46 years, and it sounds just as fresh and still moves me to this day!

There was a period between age 17 and age 36, where I had moved

on to exploring other genres of music and I had kind of left this

gem behind. But a gem is a gem!--It's timeless and never loses it's value.

I revisited this incredible album at age 36 and was immediately taken

back to my childhood in the 70's, playing guitar and piano and singing

along with one of the baddest bands of the 70's....The Allman Brothers.

Nowdays, I play it at least twice a month and have turned

my nephews (who are now picking up instruments) on to it

the same way that my uncle did for me back in the 70's.

So check it out, if you haven't heard it already,

because it's a gift that keeps on giving! (-:"
