Synopsis

His triumph on the talent-seeking Nashville Star series gave Chris Young a promotional push toward the stardom that this well-crafted debut will likely ensure. With a husky baritone that can sound surprisingly supple and mature, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter touches all the bases. He's the goodtime drinking man on "Beer or Gasoline," "White Lightning" (not the George Jones classic), and "Who's Gonna Take Me Home," and he's the man who soberly faces the ultimate price he's paid for drinking on the tearjerker "Flowers." He's as romantically sensitive as a chick flick on "You're Gonna Love Me" and "Center of My World," and he's the lusty lover boy on "Lay It on Me." He's all heartache on "Drinkin' Me Lonely" and all party on "Small Town, Big Time." And it's hard to imagine a goofier novelty song on border relations than "Your Way José," which could be condemned for perpetuating ethnic stereotypes if it didn't make the singer sound dumbest of all. While it may take a few more releases for Young to establish his artistic identity, he's already been designed as the perfect commercial product (produced by Buddy Cannon, who has enjoyed such success with Kenny Chesney and Sara Evans). --Don McLeese

Throw out the CD Case - You'll Never Take the Disk Out of Yo

"I have to first say - I was skeptical. I really expected that this highly-anticipated major label debut was going to get too 'Country-Fried' with the current Nashville Sound.

In the wake of the success of acts like Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban, I feared this release was going to have the same problem as both of these acts... Great talents (tremendous talents actually) taking Top 40 - Pop Music, adding a fiddle and/or harmonica and calling it country. And who wouldn't think that, especially coming off of the Country version of American Idol?

For me the only reason to suffer through Wynona and Cowboy Troy awkwardly stumble through Nashville Star each week, was to hear this guy sing. (No Offense, but stick to singing guys)

But that's not the case. This guy IS the Next Alan Jackson or George Strait. Yes - I actually said it. And no - he doesn't sound like, or rip off, anyone else's style.

Chris Young is, well - Chris Young. A terrific voice with an honesty that comes through in his music that is so dearly lacking in most of what passes for Country Music these days.

Don't believe the hype? Buy it and try it yourself. I'll bet you find the same problem as I did: My ride to work just wasn't long enough to play the whole CD, and then go back to replay my favorites.

Heck - it's hard to choose a favorite, each of these tunes really deserves to be on the CD.

Laugh through 'White Lightning', 'Beer or Gasoline' and 'I'm Headed Your Way, Jose' but look out for for 'Flowers' it'll jerk a tear.

And the 2-step tempo on 'Drinkin' me Lonely' is different from the stripped-down acoustic version he WOWed America with on TV, but it is still destined to hit the top 10 - Maybe even higher.

A real breath of fresh air for Country Music. Get on board folks, this is the next man of country music, it's gonna be a great ride.

Great Job Chris Young!"
Great Debut CD

"Good country voice. Good listening. Several songs I really enjoy. "Beer or Gasoline" is cute, "You're Gonna Love Me" and "Drinkin' Me Lonely" are well sung and "I'm Headed Your Way, Jose" is great fun. "Flowers" is also good. I was pleasantly surprised with many good songs. (I bought it for his Nashivlle Star song, "Drinkin' Me Lonely) and was not disappointed with the whole album."

"This CD is a great one from a new breakout Country artist. Do not pass it up, if you like this kind of music. Every song either makes you want to get up and dance or tears at your heart. Definate must!"
