CD ReviewsRest in peace Pirkle Lee Moses Jr. L. E STOTTLEMEYER | KCMO | 04/07/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "A few years ago I found the lead singer of The El Dorados phone number in the internet white pages. I called Pirkle Lee and told him how much I loved the music the group made and how much a fan I was and I told him he was one of the best lead singers in doo wop history. He was very pleased to hear from me. Pirkle Lee passed away about year or so ago- Rest in peace Pirkle. This cd is a fine example of Pirkles unique lead singing that could flawlessly slide into one of the best falsettos in doo wop history. The song "A fallen tear" is one of the best ballads of the 1950's-it's absolutely gorgeous(I've featured it for years on my Dr.Blues and Boogie Show). "Crazy little mama" which is their biggest hit is also included. "Now that youve gone" and "There in the night" are more pure classic ballads. There's also the uptempo "Bim Bam Boom"
which influenced the name of an early 70's Oldies magazine. The ElDorados proved that you didn't have to hail from Harlem or Brooklyn to have the sound of New York doo wop. No siree-these guys were born and bred in south Chicago. One of my all time favorite groups and cd's." |
